Worried about being seen in jeans, ganjee and chappals at your office or a party? KT discovers the new all-occasion look this season...MILIND Soman personifies it. David Beckham made it globally acceptable. And John Abraham is its unofficial brand ambassador. If you still don't flaunt the 'cool casual' look then you need to do it now.
The jeans-ganjee or sleeveless teechappal look, for long considered the 'everyday' look seems to have caught on with young men who flaunt them at campuses, parties and even at work in a big way.

So much so, that it's almost become the 'all-occasion look' for some of them!
Says model-actor Milind Soman, "I do have an all-occasion look, and that's always been a jeans and a T-shirt . Besides these basics, I don't even wear a watch." On the other hand, actor Parvin Dabas says he's a complete 'sandals ' person: "I'm all for open footwear and sandals. They're comfortable and can be matched with most apparel, provided you carry them well."
Comfort and attitude are the key, if Delhi-based designer Varun Bahl is to be believed. For him, the perfect casual look comprises blue jeans, white or black shirt or tee, and "wild" footwear. "The rugged look suits people who are young and fit. But, you must identify with your look. Nonetheless, of all these trends, you'll spot one or two in every second man," he says.
A fact, store owner Santanu Dey readily agrees with, as he admits that, "The casual look is 'in' among collegians these days. Right now, lowwaist , narrow folded bottoms and torn-look jeans are in vogue, along with short-sleeved tees and shirts. Open slippers in wooden finish are the craze." A sober version of this look has also gained acceptability in many offices. Abhishek Bishayee, a senior business analyst with a multinational, says that he often sports a casual attire at work. "Brief cases are so passe. At work, men are now carrying either rucksack type bags or sling bags in cloth," says Bishayee. "There does exist something of a basic look," sums up designer Rajesh Pratap Singh, adding, "It includes jeans teamed with other adequate apparel. The footwear has to be comfy and the bag, big and without logos. The buzzword is 'functional' ." So, how functional are you? kanpur.times@timesgroup.com
